| June 29, 2010 | Home | Happy or Sad | I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad on this one. I've been having fits out of my Kawasaki Jet Ski almost all season. Yesterday it broke down on me in the middle of the lake. I thought that I had completely destroyed the engine.
I also thought I had fried all of the electricals.
It turns out it may not be as bad as I thought. The electrical issue was just a solder joint that came undone. As far as the engine,... It's a 3 Cylinder 2-Stroke Engine and the middle cylinder wasn't getting the same compression as the other two(only about 35 psi where I was getting 110 psi for the others), so I pulled the head.

You can see where the wall of the cylinder has been scarred. ...which is probably expected considering it's a 15 year old engine.
Currently I'm thinking about doing a Top End Rebuild on the engine. And while it costs about $400, and there's no guarantee that this will fix it, I have to say that this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Two strokes are quickly being phased out. It may be neat to attempt it. | | Go Back | | |
